UNDER 14 BOYS | SOUTH COAST FLAME 1 – 2 NEWCASTLE JETS @ THE FURNACE | SAT 20 AUG 2022

Flame started the game with great intensity as they looked to cause disruption to the Jets’ style of play with their high press. Jets showed their technical capabilities and were able to control possession well. A lapse in the defence saw the visitors play a direct ball in behind and finished to take the lead. Flame responded positively, creating some good opportunities but failed to convert.

Flame continued the momentum in the second half with both teams creating great opportunities. Ben Parry, James Benedetti and Oscar Loveday all created good chances but could not convert. At the other end, keeper Deakin Henry made a couple of great stops to keep the Jets out.

Another lapse in concentration saw the Jets double their lead.

Flame responded with pressure and were rewarded with a goal from Daniel Starcevic to reduce the deficit however the home side could not find an equaliser.

Player of the week: Deakin Henry

Made numerous quality saves to keep the Jets from scoring more and commanded his area well in set pieces.

UNDER 15 BOYS | SOUTH COAST FLAME 1 – 1 NEWCASTLE JETS @ THE FURNACE | SAT 20 AUG 2022

South Coast Flame hosted Newcastle on Saturday in a consecutive double header weekend and some better results than last weekend for Flame.

Flame started off well as they went up early in the game after a Jake Ueda corner was headed home by Ryan Plumridge. Flame improved a lot from the last few weeks showing great energy, effort, and skill in what was a very entertaining game.

Newcastle equalised early in the second half and were unlucky to not take all three points after creating good chances towards the end of the game. Flame did really well to hand on and take a point.

Player of the week: Ryan Plumridge

Arguably his best performance on Saturday and scored the goal to help his team stay in the match. A consistent high performer.

UNDER 16 BOYS | SOUTH COAST FLAME 0 – 1 NEWCASTLE JETS @ THE FURNACE | SAT 20 AUG 2022

South Coast Flame played well against a strong Newcastle side. It was a good battle between both teams which resulted in an entertaining game.

Flame had their moments in possession and attacking prowess but could not tuck away any of their big chances.

Newcastle capitalised on a Flame mistake which allowed the Jets to push forward and put away a shot for the only goal of the match. Although Flame came away empty handed, they put in a solid team effort and all round played some promising football.

UNDER 18 BOYS | SOUTH COAST FLAME 5 – 1 NEWCASTLE JETS @ THE FURNACE | SAT 20 AUG 2022

Saturday’s game in Kembla Grange for South Coast Flame lived up to its home ground name of ‘The Furnace’ because the home side were on fire.

Flame’s first goal came in the 14th minute when a midfielder turnover to Zachary Birch gave him the opportunity to take a touch and square it up ready for Jett Stroemer to tap it in.

It was only five minutes later Flame went two-up when a set piece opportunity allowed to Flame to capitalise again. A free kick taken by Jyden Harb was headed across the goal by Aiden Chard and Zachary Birch quickly took a shot. His attempt deflected off the bar, but Birch went in for the rebound and tucked it away after a scramble near the goal line.

The pattern of attack continued for the hosts in the 30th minute when a beautifully weighted cross by Chard found Mason Vidella, who calmly chested the ball, ran on goal and finished in the bottom corner. Flame went into the change rooms at half time with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The second half was similar to the first. Flame came out guns blazing and kept pushing forward for more goal scoring opportunities.

Bowen Spencer displayed brilliant control as he brought down a cross field ball and took on a defender and goalkeeper in which he finished brilliantly to make it 4-0.

In the 74th minute, a penalty was awarded to Newcastle Jets which saw them convert and pull a goal back.

However, the Flame players were not finished yet as they made it 5-1 with a neat finish from Noah Duarte from just outside the box.

An excellent performance from the Flame boys which gave the 18’s all a confidence boost as they enjoyed the celebrations after leaving Newcastle in ashes earlier this season.

Player of the week: Jett Stroemer

Worked tirelessly in the midfield breaking down any opposing attack.
