UNDER 13 | South Coast Flame 0 – 1 NWS Spirit FC
Ian McLennan Park | 6 August 2022
A top of the table clash between two quality sides that didn’t go our way today unfortunately. Both teams played some quality football throughout and there was only going to ever be a small margin separating them.
Strong performances from all boys today and they should all be proud of their effort today.

Great defensive display.
UNDER 14 | South Coast Flame 2 – 1 NWS Spirit FC
Ian McLennan Park | 6 August 2022
First half both teams struggled to create any meaningful chances. Spirit had the better of possession and were able to play through our lines, as we struggled to match their physicality in midfield.
The second half started in the worse way possible, after Deakin Henry made a brilliant save out of the top corner, Spirit scored from the resulting corner kick from a free header. Flame slowly got into their groove, and after a few tactical changes, Haider Raad managed to beat his player and deliver a dangerous cross that Alex Bosevski finished at the second time of asking.
Flame has all the momentum and started pushing with belief they could get a winner, with a lot of half chances just failing to hit the mark. However, with less than 2 minutes to go, a fantastic killer pass from Kiran Dhami found James Benedetti in the box, who brilliantly beat his man and cut back to Ben Parry to tap in for the lead.
Flame showed great resilience and determination to hold out the game for a 2-1 win.
Player of the Week | Alex Bosevski
Showed great energy and intensity throughout the game, showing great desire and hunger in chasing down loose balls and creating dangerous moments in attack. Was rewarded with a goal which he attacked brilliantly at the first time and buried with his second effort.

UNDER 18 | South Coast Flame 1 – 3 NWS Spirit FC
Ian McLennan Park | 6 August 2022
On Saturday, the under 18’s Flame boys faced a clinical NWS Spirit FC, who sat second on the ladder. The game started and it was fast and physical. During the first 20 minutes, both teams played end to end and had opportunities to score, but the strong defence displayed by both teams held the attacks at bay.
It was in the 21st minute though, that an NWS Spirit’s attacker found the net after a questionable offside, bringing them ahead at 0-1. Despite this, our Flame boys kept their composure and held the opposition at bay to maintain the score 0-1 at Half Time.
In the second half, Flame came out of the sheds hungry to equalise, pressing high on NWS and looked for opportunities to push fast and past their back line. However, it was in the 57th minute where there was some fatigue and slight confusion in the Flame defensive end, opening the opportunity for NSW to score again, making the score 0-2.
Despite this, Flame composed themselves and continued to fight the seasoned NWS side.
Coach Jason Spencer brought on substitution players Levi Dirks and Cassidy Mar from U16’s who made immediate impacts.
It was Levi Dirks who, in the 68th minute, showed good strength and touch to make a crucial pass to striker Will Aston. Being pressed by some solid NWS centre backs, Aston quickly laid off the ball to an attacking Antonio Sansone who put away Flames first goal of the match. It was a great combination play between the Flame trio and this lifted the boys, and Flame could smell a comeback with the score now at 1-2.
Unfortunately, 10 minutes later in the 78th minute, NWS demonstrated some smart switch of play to catch the Flame defence off guard and they extended their lead to 1-3.
Despite the margin, Flame continued with resilience and fight, and in the 85th minute were rewarded a penalty after a NWS handball. Unfortunately, the penalty attempt by Jyden Harb was tipped by the NWS goalkeeper to force the ball onto the post and back in the field of play.
Although the boys fought hard in the second half, some off target passes and heavy touches hindered our ability to find the net, and the game ended with the final score 1-3 loss.
Next week Flame travel to Cook Park in St Marys to take on Nepean FC, who sit in 9th position on the ladder so our boys will need to bring their A game if they want to win on their turf next week.
Player of the Week | Jett Stroemer
Jett’s effort and commitment in the middle of the park was outstanding. He worked tirelessly against a very classy Spirit midfield. Special mention to the U16’s players Levi and Cassidy who stood up and changed the game when they came on.
