This weekend shapes as a massive weekend for all age groups, from first grade all the way down to our youngest youth teams. Our girls and women take on the ladder-leading Northbridge, with our men and boys take on competition favourites, Newcastle Jets.
SENIOR MEN
Newcastle Jets vs South Coast Flame
Sunday 8th May
Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility
U/20: 5pm
First Grade: 7pm
To conclude the weekend of action, Newcastle Jets take on South Coast Flame at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Sunday night.
The Jets had their most recent game against Camden Tigers postponed, with their last match finishing in a 1-1 draw against UNSW FC, with an early red card in the second half keeping scores level.
If other results go their way, Newcastle could go top of the league with a win over South Coast Flame, while they also have two games in hand on Hurstville and one on Hawkesbury, meaning they are guaranteed to remain in top spot if they get back on a winning roll.
Newcastle is the only side in the competition yet to lose a game, having won four and drawn two in their six matches played so far.
Meanwhile, after not picking up a win in their first four matches in the league, South Coast Flame is coming off the back of two consecutive victories in League Three Men.
They’ve impressively beaten Camden Tigers and Hurstville FC to propel themselves to seventh spot in the table and will be looking to continue this streak against Newcastle this weekend. Fabian Iacovelli is starting to show good form with goals in each of his last two appearances.
South Coast Flame’s U/20’s take on the undefeated Jets, with a win putting the squad in a prime position to push into the top five – where they sit just one point out of finals contention with a game in hand. Flame would have been disappointed with the way things panned out last week and hope to get something out of their game this week.
SENIOR WOMEN
Northbridge Bulls vs South Coast Flame
Sunday 8th May
Northbridge Oval
U/20: 1:40pm
First Grade: 3:40pm
The Northbridge Bulls FC host South Coast Flame FC on Sunday afternoon at their spiritual home of Northbridge Oval.
The Bulls will be ready to be on parade after having the weekend off due to their washout against Camden Tigers in the southwest. South Coast Flame FC were close 2-1 losers to Marconi Stallions at The Furnace.
Recent results have seen Northbridge Bulls slip to eighth in the League One Womens competition and need to find the antidote soon. Tamires Souza will give them an injection of pace upfront that might be enough to take the points this weekend.
South Coast Flame FC will want to fire up their win streak again after their loss last weekend. Coach Daniel Naumovski’s side have a firm partnership in Caley Tallon-Henniker and Emilia Skopal which gives them a chance to pick up another big scalp headed into the halfway mark.
Flame were pretty disappointed with their mid-week 1-1 draw against Mount Druitt and will be looking for a much better performance this weekend.
The Flame’s U/20’s face a tough test, taking on the table-topping bulls. Flame currently sit nine points outside of the top five and will look to bounce back after back-to-back losses.
YOUTH BOYS
Newcastle Jets vs South Coast Flame
Sunday 8th May
Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility
U/13: 8:30am
U/14: 10:05am
U/15: 11:40am
U/16: 1:15pm
U/18: 3pm
Our youth boys face a tough test this weekend, taking on the Newcastle Jets – who are in the top-two in four of the five youth age groups.
The U/13’s will look to hand the Jets their third loss of the year, as they lurk just outside of the top five with two games in hand. A win here as well as wins in their two catch-up games could see the side as high as top of the league in a few weeks.
The U/14’s currently sit 13th with two games in hand on a congested table. Wins in their catch up games could see the 14’s pushing the top six. They face the seventh-placed Jets who are five points ahead of the Flame with two games in hand, so a win here along with catch-up wins will see the Flame jump the Jets.
The U/15’s, U/16’s and U/18’s all head to Newcastle in a similar situation, with all sides currently occupying mid-table positions whilst taking on ladder-leading teams from the Jets. This weekend will provide these age groups with a good test as to how our squads are going.
YOUTH GIRLS
Northbridge Bulls vs South Coast Flame
Sunday 8th May
Northbridge Oval
U/14: 9am
U/15: 10:35am
U/16: 12:05pm
Our youth girls face a tough test in all age groups this weekend, taking on the Northbridge Bulls who are currently occupying first spot in two of the three age groups.
The U/14’s will look to build off their point against Mount Druitt last Friday-night as they take on the sixth-placed Bulls.
The U/15’s were disappointed to walk away with only a point against Mount Druitt after dominating the chances and putting in a good performance. They take on the ladder-leading Bulls.
Our U/16’s have two games this weekend. First, they face 11th placed Sutherland up in Kareela on Friday night before a stern test against the ladder-leading Bulls on Sunday afternoon.
