South Coast Flame Senior Men’s sides will play host to UNSW this Saturday at the Furnace.

The Flame’s matches last weekend were postponed due to the consistent wet weather.

The lads had a strong hit out against FNSW League Two side Inter Lions midweek in an Australia Cup fixture. Despite dominating large portions of the game, Flame fell 1-0. In saying that, there were some wonderful patches of football played and the boys will be hoping for a bit more luck this weekend.

UNSW have had a challenging start to the season with two defeats in their opening games, but they have played some enterprising football.

A 3-2 defeat to Hawkesbury in the opening round was followed up by a 2-1 loss to Hurstville eight days later. Nima Beik will likely be one Flame will need to watch as he has netted in both previous matches.

UNSW did get the better of the Flame in the corresponding fixture last season getting up 3-1 despite Flame leading the game at halftime.

Pending midweek injury concerns, Coach Darren Jones will likely have close to a full squad to choose from.

The Under 20’s weren’t at their best last match however they did enough beating Rage 2-0.

Their opponents this week UNSW, are yet to win this season after a 3-1 defeat to Hawkesbury and a 2-2 draw with Hurstville.

Flame will be looking to go back-to-back.

The Youth Boys had a very impressive round of matches last weekend, picking up four wins and just one loss.

The boys are scheduled to play against Parramatta FC this weekend, given the weather and current condition of Field Two, these games are postponed.

The Senior Women’s First Grade team succumbed to a 4-0 defeat to a strong Hills United side last week.

The side will be looking to rectify a two-game losing run this Saturday against Sutherland Shire Association.

This week on Flame TV, we spoke with forward Jessica Cruickshank who has had a great goal scoring start to the season.

It’s also the first time the Men’s and Women’s teams have been home on the same day. It is a great opportunity to get out early or stay back a little later and support the teams.

The Under-20s also went down to Hills United 2-0.

Hazel Atkins had a good game last weekend putting in a strong defensive performance and rising to the challenge.

It was a difficult set of matches for the Youth Girls sides with no wins against Hills United.

The girls will be hoping for better this Saturday against Sutherland Shire Association at The Furnace.
