13 Boys: South Coast Flame 3-0 Bankstown United

The Flame were back to winning ways this weekend with a comfortable 3-0 win.

The boys played reasonably well in the first half with two Harvey Gottlieb free kicks within the space of three minutes leading us into halftime.

In the second half, the boys played better and Issac Papakosmas was rewarded with a fine goal that sent us on our way to the victory which sees the boys maintaining pressure at the top of the ladder with games in hand as well.

Special mention to Myke Calderomski who had an excellent game in the few positions he played and also Jett Beck who filled in for us in midfield from the Under 12’s.

Player of the week: Harvey Gottlieb

Harvey worked hard and scored two wonderful free kicks. Opposition had to change their formation and switch their best player to opposite flank due to Harvey’s efforts.

16 Boys: South Coast Flame 0-2 Bankstown United

Despite a solid effort from the team and numerous excursions into the attacking third, a preventable goal in each half left us chasing the game.

Several long injury delays in the second half disrupted our momentum and we were not able to hit the back of the net due to some scrambling saves from the keeper.

We controlled the ball well at times, but not enough to dominate the game and wear the opposition down to create clear scoring opportunities.

Player of the week: Yoan Ciugureanu

Yoan had a sound positional game, had a good presence on the ball and a positive attitude.

18 Boys: South Coast Flame 3-0 Bankstown United

The game against Bankstown on Saturday was won in the first half with quality football by our South Coast Flame boys, but the second half performance was not at the standard we normally expect from the Flame.

The Flame started the game off with high energy and Mason Videla scored early, blasting the ball top corner in the third minute. The Flame continued to dominate possession and kept pressing the opposition with intensity.

In the sixth minute, Bankstown conceded a corner and we scored again with a Jett Stroemer header finding the back of the net.

Only 13 minutes in to the game, the Flame score again with Antonio Sansone finding the back of the net with a well taken shot just outside the 18 yard box.

The opposition took 25 minutes to find their feet, creating several opportunities and nearly scoring a goal with a well struck shot hitting the cross bar. The Flame regrouped and continued to create plenty of opportunities, but the score remained 3-0 our way at half time.

The Flame started the second half with the same intensity they began the match, continuing to dominate possession, however as the half wore on we started to lose our composure and the game became scrappy.

This gave the opposition a chance and they scored from a well taken corner, now 3-1. The remaining 20 minutes of the game was end to end football with both teams tussling for the ball and trying to find the back of the net.

With only 10 minutes to go, Bankstown scored again and it was game on. The urgency increased and Bankstown kept pressing hard for the equaliser, with Flame defending tirelessly. Fortunately for us the opposition couldn’t score again so the game ended with a final score of 3-2 to Flame.

A great result as the boys earned the three points this week. Next Sunday we travel to play Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC who sit in the top five of the ladder, so the boys will need to focus and hold form in order to give the Eagles a challenge and bring home the points.

Player of the week: Mason Videla

Worked tirelessly up and down the right flank and scored a great goal to top an excellent performance.
