16 Boys: South Coast Flame 1-2 Nepean FC

The Flame got off to a slow start and conceded in the first 5 minutes, though credit must be given to the players for working hard and grabbing a goal back tie the game. We then conceded from a mistake to be 2 -1 down at half time.

Flame had the better of the second half and created a lot of chances, but were unable to capitalise and convert. Even with 10-men at the end of the game, we still dominated and could have easily taken a point from this game.

Player of the week: Mitch Despotovski

Closed down well and pressed at the right time enabling us to create goal scoring chances.

18 Boys: South Coast Flame 1-0 Nepean FC

It was an exciting game for our Under 18 boys on Sunday at The Furnace, taking on rivals Nepean FC who were just above us on the table.

The opposition were very aggressive as always, resulting in a number of yellow cards being issued. The Flame did well to keep to the game plan by staying calm and relaxed on the ball despite the spoiling tactics.

Both sides were intent on taking opportunities to shoot when in close range, and the Flame came close to scoring several times but were just wide or turned back by Nepean’s strong defence.

Flame’s composure was rewarded in the 66th minute when some good lead up work and an accurate cross from Jay De Gouveia was well controlled by Jyden Harb, who found the back of the net. Flame lead 1-0 and for the next 20 minutes, the game intensifies as Nepean look to equalise.

However, despite the strong press, the Flame held strong through to the final whistle. It was an excellent result against a very physical team, and one the coach was very happy with. Next week, we travel to Newcastle to play the top of the table Jets.

Player of the week: Jay De Gouveia

Jay constantly worked hard and provided a great assist to set up the winning goal.
