South Coast Flame went down 5-2 to Kiama Quarriers at Kiama Sporting Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The side struggled for numbers this week with a number of players missing through injury and a few more carrying niggling injuries.
It was a slow start to the game for Flame with the girls finding themselves 3-0 down early on.
Midway through the first period, the side began to assume control in the match but failed to create any meaningful chances in this time.
Caitlin Russel pulled one back for the Flame just before the break seeing the side head into the sheds 3-1 down.
The side came out the interval firing as Ernica Bakhtiari scored early on to see the deficit reduced to just one goal.
Flame, buoyed by two goals on either side of halftime, continued to push in pursuit of an equaliser.
However, Kiama dealt a hammer blow when they restored their two-goal advantage.
The Quarriers would add one more shortly after scoring their fourth to seal the win for the home side.
Despite the disappointing result, a lot can be taken from the girls’ performance.
Great character was shown from the side, considering the difficulties heading into the match.
Player of the Week: Caitlin Russel
A performance that demonstrated great leadership from someone so young.
Worked tirelessly throughout the 90 minutes and made a huge contribution in getting the team back into the game.
