Match Reports

Fraser Park and South Coast Flame played out a scoreless draw despite both teams having good opportunities to take the points.

The first opportunity of the match fell to Fraser Park after just seven minutes. A long ball was floated into the box, Francis Mcalpine managed to get a head to it however, Jordan Bruce got down well to save.

On 15 minutes, some wonderful combination play in midfield saw Ben Caroutas square the ball to Genki Iwata however he pushed his shot wide from 10 yards in what was a golden opportunity for Flame.

The cold and windy conditions proved difficult for the players to play in. It seemed to take a while for the players to get into a rhythm and a flurry of chances came in the last ten minutes of the first half.

Firstly, Blake Timillero snapped a shot from the edge of the box that forced Bruce into a fine save and a minute later, a floated ball over the top was misjudged by the Fraser Park defence allowing Michael Trajkovski through on goal. With the keep well off his line, Trajkovski struggled to get the height required to get it over Amaro Ferreira and yet another good opportunity lost for Flame who in recent weeks have been stuttering in front of goal.

Just two minutes later, Fraser Park stole possession in midfield and countered with a four on two in transition. Christian Dos Santos cut the ball back to Shu Torihara who had his shot saved by Bruce.

Right on half time, Jacob Poscoliero couldn’t quite get to a bouncing ball and Mcalpine swooped to drive the ball solo towards goal. He chose for power over accuracy and the ball sailed over the bar in what was Fraser Park’s best opportunity.

Flame started the second half with good possession and high tempo. Not long after the restart, a neat little set corner piece saw Iwata find Trajkovski on the back post. He just couldn’t keep the header down as they racked up bombed opportunities.

On 58 minutes, James Baldacchino intercepted a stray pass from Fraser Park in midfield. He laid it off to Sam Alston who weaved past a defender before firing a shot that was just a little too high.

Both sides made several changes in an attempt to win the game however the majority of chances dried up as it became a battle of midfield.

There was one last chance for Fraser Park with substitute Harry Skotadis nearly making a name for himself on 80 minutes when he forced Bruce into a flying save.

In the end, neither team could find a way through and perhaps on the balance of play, a fair result.
